Whether you choose the Paleo diet, the 2000 calorie or 1500 calorie diet or some other diet, the important thing is to keep learning what you body needs and to keep improving your diet over time.
Here are some tips that can help you do just that…
* Never shop for groceries before eating. Shop only after you have eaten. If you shop before you eat, you’re much more likely to buy foods that look tasty but aren’t right for your diet.
* Be sure to eat sitting down. When you sit down, this focuses your attention more directly on the act of eating. Do all your eating in just one place. Don’t eat anywhere but that one place. If you eat in the same place, you associate that place with the idea that this is the only place where you should be eating.
* As suggested previously, watch food labels. Foods that have a high percentage of trans fats or carbs that are sugars will slow down your weight program.
* Never think you can eat all you want just because you’re eating low fat or low calorie foods. Whatever number of calories you consume will add up and must be burned off — no matter what kind of food you eat.
* Are you going out to a restaurant for dinner? Decide ahead of time what you will eat and stick to it.
* You just can’t stay healthy and make weight-loss permanent without exercise. Your best ally in improving your health and bringing your weight under control is exercising regularly.
* Also as noted before, water is the perfect drink when you’re dieting. Be sure to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily.
* Remember that each day you stay on your diet brings you closer to your weight goal.
* The worst way to diet is to consume the most calories in one big meal. Instead, eat four or five small meals throughout the day.
* If there is a reason why you can eat just one major meal a day, make sure that it’s in the morning to midday, rather than in the afternoon or in the evening.
* Finally, when you go to the grocery store, limit the amount of time that you’re there. The longer you stay in the store, the more food you are likely to buy.
